Rotherham United goalkeeper Viktor Johansson has been rumoured with fellow South Yorkshire side Sheffield United for quite some time. The saga has been further circulated after Millers new boss Steve Evans has claimed the Swedish international “likely” won’t be with the club next season.

Speaking to the Rotherham Advertiser, Evans explained: “The chances are that, with the huge interest in him, Viktor will leave in the summer. It will probably be a life-changing move for the kid.”

According to Alan Nixon, the 25-year-old shot-stopper is wanted by Stoke City. Meanwhile, a different source [Aftonbladet] has stated that Leeds United are also showing interest in the player.

Sheffield United have been linked with Johansson for a long time and speculation only increased when a couple of months ago it came to light that he has a relegation release clause in his contract. As per the Rotherham Advertiser the clause in question is presumed to be a seven-figure fee.

Sheffield United are in need of a new goalkeeper this summer

As things stand, Wes Foderingham and Adam Davies will be free agents in the summer, while academy product Jordan Amissah’s future is also in question.

It has to be said that the January signing of Ivo Grbic for around £2 million has been a shocking piece of business. The Croatian has conceded 25 goals in nine games, and according to SofaScore he has a goals prevented number of -10.31 ; meaning he has let in ten goals more than he should have.

With the Blades in desperate need of a new goalkeeper they would be foolish to not consider the Swede as a viable option.
