Will Ferrell could be on track to play John Madden in upcoming film

Will Ferrell could be adding another sports legend to his cast of characters.

According to a report from Deadline, Ferrell is on track to be cast as Hall of Fame coach and broadcaster John Madden in an upcoming Amazon/MGM feature film.

"Madden" is said to tell the story of one of pro football's most significant figures.

After wrapping up his career as one of the NFL's most successful head coaches, Madden went on to have an extensive career as one of pro sports most famous and popular broadcasters, while also helping to develop the Madden video game series that remains one of the most successful video game franchises ever.

Madden died in December 2021 at the age of 85.

According to the Deadline report, the film will focus on Madden's friendship with former Raiders owner Al Davis, as well as his post-coaching popularity and impact.

Ferrell has starred in multiple blockbuster films, and is also known for impersonating another sports announcing legend during his time on Saturday Night Live.

It was during his time on SNL that he portrayed former Chicago Cubs announcer Harry Caray in a parody role

He has also starred in several sports-themed movies including Talladega Nights and Blades of Glory.

The role of Madden in this sort of feature film will almost certainly have a different feel and approach.

The movie has reportedly been in the works for a while now but no official release date or timeline is set.
