Former NFL GM Offers Strong Take on Upcoming Chicago Bears NFL Draft
Daniel Bartel-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears own the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, and thanks to a strong offseason, could be on the cusp of a worst-to-first caliber charge in the NFC North during the 2024 season.

Given that Bears general manager Ryan Poles is all but assuredly selecting USC quarterback Caleb Williams, Chicago’s offense features the kind of talent one would expect from a ready-made postseason contender.

After all, Poles has already acquired All-Pro wide receiver Keenan Allen to pair opposite field-stretching wideout D.J. Moore, in Williams’ arsenal, and inked a free agent deal with prolific and versatile running back D’Andre Swift.

Chicago Bears Have Major NFL Draft Opportunity

It should come as little surprise then, that former NFL executive Marc Ross suggests that Poles and the Chicago Bars are the team with the most to gain during this upcoming draft.

“The team with the first overall pick in a year with so much quarterback talent,” Ross writes for NFL.com. “Has a tremendous opportunity to revitalize the entire organization. We’ve seen time and time again how one player can change the course of a franchise — with the most recent immediate success story being the Texans and C.J. Stroud. The Bears have long searched for their franchise QB. Now, they are positioned to get him.”

In addition to owning the No. 1 overall selection, Poles and the Bears also own a second significantly valuable asset; pick No. 9.

Holding two top-10 selections could allow the Bears to round out the receiving corps by adding a prospect such as Washington’s Rome Odunze — if he’s available, take the best edge on the board when Chicago is on the clock, or trade back in the first-round to net a second-round selection or future first-round pick to continue taking bites at the apple of blue-chip talent.

Williams and the Bears’ draft class could have the opportunity to usher in a new and exciting era in the Windy City.
