Knicks Draft Pick Trevor Keels Returns to Roster After Summer League Stint

Trevor Keels has returned from Las Vegas with a valuable souvenir.

Fresh off a five-game tour in Vegas Summer League action, the New York Knicks' second-round pick from the 2022 draft has returned to the team on a two-way contract, per Keith Smith of Spotrac. Keels, who turns 20 next month, joined the Knicks as the 42nd selection after spending a year at Duke.

As it stands, Keels is the Knicks' only acquisition from the 2022 draft that has a name, as New York opted to use the night to trade and gain draft picks to build a de facto Jalen Brunson fund. Most of Keels' NBA experience to date has come in Las Vegas and Bridgeport (under the Westchester banner), representing the Knicks' Summer League and G League groups. He appeared in three NBA regular season games with the big club in his rookie year, all in mop-up duty when the game was out of hand.

Keels struggled in his Summer League debut in 2022, shooting below 26 percent from the field and losing 11 turnovers in five games. He recovered in G League to the tune of a 14.5-point average in 24 appearances and capped off his more recent Las Vegas showings in style, notably earning 20 points on a 7-of-10 shooting night from the field in a win over Boston in the penultimate contest of the five-game schedule.

On the Knicks' roster, Keels joins Summer League teammate Jaylen Martin and three-year NBA veteran Nathan Knight as holders of the team's three two-way deals.
