Phillies considering reunion with 2008 World Series MVP Cole Hamels?

Are the Philadelphia Phillies eyeing a reunion with Cole Hamels? It certainly seems that way.

According to MLB Network's Jon Heyman, the Phillies are among teams planning to attend Hamels' showcase on Friday.

Hamels logged just 3.1 innings of work in 2020 with the Atlanta Braves due to a shoulder injury and is currently a free agent. His last full season was in 2019, when he went 7-7 with the Chicago Cubs, logging a 3.81 ERA, 1.391 WHIP and 143 strikeouts in 141.2 innings.

The 37-year-old spent the first 10 years of his career with the Phillies from 2006-15, winning the World Series with the club in 2008. He was named NLCS and World Series MVP that year.

The Phillies are currently rotating Aaron Nola, Zack Wheeler, Zach Eflin, Vince Velasquez and Matt Moore on the mound. Adding Hamels could give them some much-needed depth as they look to grab the top spot in the NL East.

However, Philadelphia could face some strong competition for Hamels. The Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly among teams interested in the former star pitcher.
