Will Ferrell, Kathryn Hahn, Paul Rudd star in 'The Shrink Next Door' trailer

Paul Rudd incidentally became a therapeutic presence when the "Hey, look at us" clip from his Hot Ones interview went viral almost exactly two years ago.

"The Shrink Next Door" makes it official.

Apple TV Plus has shared its trailer for its forthcoming limited series, starring Rudd as Dr. Isaac "Ike" Herschkopf, Will Ferrell as his patient, Martin "Marty" Markowitz, and Kathryn Hahn as Marty's insistent sister, Phyllis.

We meet Marty as he begins his first session with Ike. Marty isn't sure why he's in therapy because Phyllis made him go, but it becomes clear that he is in need of help. Marty runs a fabrics company, but he doesn't necessarily give off boss vibes. Ike assures Marty, "You're the ruler of your own domain," so Marty begins taking more control and asserting boundaries in the workplace.

We then start to see Ike slowly take advantage of Marty's difficulty with boundaries. They become almost inseparable outside of the office — playing pick-up basketball, attending a wedding, working at Marty's office. Phyllis begins to wonder about his "unconventional" methods, but Marty insists that Ike is "a miracle worker," and has "changed my life." Marty even describes Ike to someone as his "psychiatrist, business partner, best friend." Eventually, Phyllis' concerns cause Ike to instruct Marty to "cut her out of your life."

Everyone can see the dysfunction and possible destruction, except for Marty.

The premise is based on the true events previously told through Bloomberg and Wondery's 2019 podcast series by the same name.

In real life, Marty began seeing Dr. Herschkopf in 1981, and over the course of years, the immoral therapist became president of Marty's fabric company and more or less took over his home in the Hamptons. Dr. Herschkopf was stripped of his license to practice in New York earlier this year, as relayed by Bloomberg at the time. Charges had been filed by New York's Department of Health one month after the explosive podcast began airing.

Ferrell and Rudd were attached to the project in February 2020, and it landed at Apple TV Plus by April. This marks the first time the comedic pair has acted together since "Anchorman" (2004) and "Anchorman 2" (2013).

The first three "The Shrink Next Door" episodes will begin streaming Nov. 12.
