'Mighty Ducks' star Shaun Weiss has burglary case dropped after completing drug recovery program

Shaun Weiss nestled into the hearts of Americans everywhere as lovable Mighty Ducks goalie Goldberg nearly 30 years ago, but this is undoubtedly the greatest save of his life.

Weiss first shocked fans when his unrecognizable mugshot circulated after his arrest for burglary under the influence of meth in late January 2020. The 42-year-old completed his court-ordered drug recovery program and subsequently had his criminal case dismissed by the district attorney's office in California's Yuba County, as relayed by TMZ on Friday (July 23):

"The D.A.'s Office said Shaun has 'demonstrated perseverance during his recovery complicated by the COVID-19 pandemic. He had to move treatment and transitional living programs on several occasions. He underwent dental reconstructive surgery, and had a close family member suffer a serious accident during his treatment.' The D.A. added, 'Shaun regained employment and has been traveling across the country making guest appearances and signing autographs. He received tremendous support from friends and fans of the character, Goldberg, he played in the 1992 hitĀ The Mighty Ducks.'"

Weiss was not among the original Mighty DucksĀ cast members to appear in the sixth episode of Disney Plus' The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, which starred Emilio Estevez reprising his iconic role of Coach Gordon Bomaby and debuted its 10-episode first season March 26.

While promoting the revival series, Estevez publicly praised Weiss despite not having reached out to him personally.

"I'm terribly proud of him," the 59-year-old actor and filmmaker told Yahoo's Ethan Alter for an article published March 25. "As everyone knows, my family is not immune to that sort of scrutiny."

"I do hold him in high regard and I know getting sober for him is obviously a big deal," Estevez continued. "The first leg of the journey is now under his belt and in the last photograph I saw, he looks fabulous. I'm encouraged and I'm hopeful."
