Week 11 NFL Picks
We are at the point of the season where contenders are going to separate themselves from the pack and last night we saw a game played in Carolina between two teams who needed a win to stay afloat for the playoff race. After losing Ronnie Brown for the remainder of the season the Dolphins turned to Ricky Williams who racked up 119 yards and 3 touchdowns to carry Miami to an upset win on the road. However Carolina could have easily won that game despite Williams’ great night. We all know the Panthers do one thing exceptionally well on offense which is run the ball. We also know that Jake Delhomme is a ticking time bomb every time he drops back to pass, it is no longer a question of if he will make a mistake but when. What does John Fox do? Hands the ball to DeAngelo Williams 13 times and Jonathan Stewart 12 times, the two backs run for 165 yards and average 6.6 yards per carry. Meanwhile Delhomme threw the ball 42 times! He only completed 19 passes for 227 yards averaging 5.4 yards per throw. Carolina averaged over a yard more per rushing attempt then throwing the ball but threw the ball close to twice as much with Jake Delhomme under center. How does this make any sense? Someone explain this to me. Carolina moved to 4-6 and will now need a lot of help and a good finish to get in, Miami is 5-5 with some easy games remaining on their schedule. Nice work John Fox, enjoy the offseason.
